Let’s Make that Business Grow
Business is not an automatic process. Most if not all business mentors will tell you that it will take hard work, smart planning and not to mention sleepless nights. Many persons have to fail before they can succeed at business, but once you have that success business plan and you have taken that leap of faith there is the small but very important matter of growth. To grow in any economy there are a few fundamental rules to follow. A few of them are;
Be Super Organized – Once you have started working on your own business you will be the head of multiple facets that will need your attention. Get yourself organized to complete tasks timely, manage projects efficiently and delegate responsibly. Use your check-list and don’t be afraid to be held accountable.
Pay Very Close Attention to Details – The details are sometimes the most important behind the scenes operations of any company. Keeping records from the launch help to clearly detail the progress or shortcomings not only help your business to learn and adapt but holds the potential to predict market changes.
Breakdown the Competition – In any field you are bound to meet competition, even with a unique business idea. Competition breeds the best result, just ask Mr. Bolt. Knowing what your competitors offer, study them and learn from them can be the difference between getting lost in the mixer or standing out above the rest.
Creativity and Innovation – Not just pretty words business people use to pad up documents, being able to bring fresh ideas to the market helps your business climb to the top. Creativity allows business leaders to always look for way to improve and solve problems even before they become problems.
Stay Focused – The old saying that “Rome was not built in a day” applies here. Just because you open a business doesn’t mean that you’re going to immediately start making money. It takes time to let people know who you are, so stay focused on achieving your short-term goals and give the rest time to come together on its own.
Prepare to Make Sacrifices – The lead-up to starting a business is hard work, but after you open your doors, your work has just begun. In many cases, you have to put in more time than you would if you were working for someone else. In turn, you have to make sacrifices, such as spending less time with family and friends in order to be successful.
Provide Great Service – There are many successful businesses that forget that providing great customer service is important. If you provide better service for your customers, they’ll be more inclined to come to you the next time they need something instead of going to your competition.
Be Consistent – Consistency is key component to making money in business. You have to consistently keep doing the things necessary to be successful day in and day out. This will create long-term positive habits that will help you make money over the long term.
Stay Honest – Sometimes overlooked for a bigger picture but honesty is a business trait that reflects in how other traders relate to your business. We are well aware although the global market may be huge, Jamaica is not so much and many of your supplies may come from home grown suppliers.
Starting and running a successful business can be rewarding and challenging. Success requires focus, discipline and perseverance. However, success will not come over night – it requires a long-term focus and that you remain consistent in challenging environments.
