Still chasing ‘The Great’
The steady rise of Chace The Great continued last Saturday as the three-year-old chestnut gelding by Greatness – Our Miss Ruth produced another impressive performance when he romped home easily to win the fourth running of the $868,000 Tack Room Trophy feature at Caymanas Park in a stakes record-equalling time.
In the Restricted Stakes event over 1,300 metres, Chace The Great won by two-and-a-half lengths going away in 1:18.1 minutes behind splits of 23.2, 46.1 and 1:10.4 minutes, easing down from half a furlong out. This was Chace The Great‘s second win in a row and his fourth in his career as he moves up to the level of Overnight Allowance.
It was a well-deserved win by the chestnut colt who continues to show improvement with each run, and whose mature approach in deep stretch underlined his true talent as he took the event with an electrifying run.
With a tight hold, Wesley Henry held Chace The Great behind the early leaders Zephry and Prolific Princess at the off. But when Henry let loose a notch, Chace The Great responded well and surged to the lead passing the half-mile and went on his merry way for an easy win.
Henry said that Chace The Great surprised him.
“This horse really surprised me with this manner of victory.
“I mean, he ran very well to equal the stakes record with me doing absolutely nothing in the saddle.
“I eased down from the sixteenth pole; that is like a half-furlong out and he still won very impressively. If I didn’t ease down, he would have gone on to do a better time. Maybe close to the track record,” Henry told the Complete Racing Guide.
