Tracking the two-year-olds
Money Magnet provided a boost to what is an already quite tame two-year-old season after a good win on her debut run last Saturday.
The chestnut filly by Nuclear Wayne – Jazzy Jet, who was heavily touted by punters, not surprisingly went off as the 1-5 favourite in the annual running of the $800,000 Rhoel Rhoden Memorial Trophy – a maiden special weight event over 1,100 metres – the longest distance the two-year-olds have gone this season.
After being held behind stable companion Tough Cookie at the off, Money Magnet hit the front coming around the final bend and then skittered away, winning by five comfortable lengths ahead of Chrisanli, Tough Cookie andFourthousand.
Bebeto Harvey, who piloted the Richard Azan-conditioned Money Magnet, was never troubled and was required to use only hands for most of the time during the 1:07.3 minutes it took the good-looking juvenile to complete the distance.
Edison Chai, part breeder along with Azan, said that he expects more from Money Magnet in the future.
“I think it was a good performance by Money Magnet at the first time of asking and she demonstrated good talent to win.
“I think it is a good time as well; she is a young horse and can only improve from here on.
“Money Magnet is a nicely conformed horse and that is a good sign,” Chai told the Complete Racing Guide.
