Denham Town edge Norman Manley 1-0

Denham Town High defeated Norman Manley High 1-0 to walk away with full points from a sullen ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup match at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex yesterday to leave coach Omar Edwards pleased with the three points.

Jovaun Green netted for Denham Town High in the 67th minute.

“It was not an attractive game, to say the least, but it was our first game of the season and we did enough to garner three points,” Edwards said.

Both teams struggled to find common ground with hard underfoot conditions and the game looked scrappy for the most part. However, it was Norman Manley who looked more dangerous on approaching goal, especially in the first half, but their diminutive forwards Alex Gardener and Keshawn Abrahams faltered at the moment of expectation.

Meantime, Denham Town High utilised the long balls with the wind to seize the initiative until seven minutes past the hour mark when Green stabbed home past goalkeeper Khari Campbell to take full points from a game that could have easily ended in a draw.

“We did as well we could considering we could have only fielded a team from among our reserves as registration of our better players was late in completion. But when you see us next, we’ll will be a much better Norman Manley,” promised the coach.
