Fashion Kaleidoscope to showcase colours
TEN emerging designers are slated to showcase their creations at Fashion Kaleidoscope scheduled for Stephanie Hall, located at Holy Childhood High School in Kingston, on September 24.
Organiser and CEO of Liquid Gold Model Agency, Jaime Rose, is promising a family-friendly event.
“The designers will be showing colourful, ready-to-wear designs,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
“The event is called Kaleidoscope as it challenges the designers to come up with designs using many colours. Previous shows featured new designers. This will show the work of designers whom we have featured years before and have gone on to make a name for themselves. We will also showcase some of our established models. We will also for the first time be featuring the work of three young Jamaican jewellers,” he said.
The CEO said 30 of his agency’s models are rostered to be on display.
According to Rose, the designers slated for the show include: Sharlene Thomas from St Andrew; Vernique Smith, swimsuit designer; Delrose Johnson (Kingston); Jenifer Barnett (Manchester); handmade crochet designer; Yah/Shirah Lindsay; Tika Walters (Montego Bay); Shellece Brown (Spanish Town); and Kingston’s Nataya Doulati.
Rose said one the things he’s hoping to do is to jump-start the declining clothing-making sector.
“I’m from Portland where seamstresses and tailors were an integral part of the economy. That sector is now dying as everyone is purchasing imported clothing. With this sector active like previous years, it could create employment and save the country whole heap of foreign exchange,” he said.
A former insurance salesman and teacher, the diminutive Rose started Liquid Gold Model Agency in 2007.
