The children speak at Morant Bay Primary
The new school year began on September 5 amidst much fanfare and, for some, fear. The Jamaica Observer North and East visited several schools, including Morant Bay Primary in St Thomas, to get the views of students on their first day back in the classroom. This is what they had to say.
Romaine Wallace, 5: Today was good. I did tests and I liked them
Danae reid, 10: My first day of school was fun. I got to see my friends and they were happy to see me and I was happy to see them. I’m looking forward to meet some new friends, but I don’t see any new ones yet. I plan to work very hard this year to achieve my goals and get good grades.
Victoria McLune, 10: It was great. I did language arts, math and early work. I’m looking forward to a lot of things this school year. I plan to study harder and to succeed.

DWAYNE STEWART, 11: My day was fine because I got to do maths and I loved it. It was very easy. I am preparing to go to Morant Bay High School. I can’t wait to do GSAT and I am not nervous; I am confident.

Dimitri Dyer, 6: Today was fun and great. I wanted to see my friends and I want to pass my exams this year.
LEOMOY HARRIS, 10: It was good, but some of the time the children in the class were too noisy, so I was upset about that. But I did my work, then I went for a break outside and I had my lunch. When I got back inside I did maths, language arts and earlier I did early work. For this school year I’m hoping to always be punctual, get all my work right, also my end of unit test and my diagnostic tests correct.
Oneilla Hood, 6: I enjoyed today. I did work and I played and had a good time.
Cilleen Maragh, 10: Today was lovely. I am happy to be back at school because I am going in Grade 6. I’m excited to do GSAT so that I can go to Excelsior [High School].
AMLAK NEVEINS, 11: My first day back at school was fun. I did a lot of mathematics and spelling. I also played with my friends. I plan to pass my GSAT (Grade Six Achievement Test) so that I can go to Morant Bay High School, and I am working hard for that.
Rahieem Lyons, 11: Today was just fine. I played, but I had some work to do such as maths and language arts. For this year, I have GSAT and I am looking forward to it because I want to go to Morant Bay High. I like Morant Bay High; it’s popular.
