‘Wi likkle but wi tallawah’
New York, USA — An envoy at Jamaica’s permanent mission to the United Nations (UN) has asserted that the country continues to make significant contributions to world affairs “despite its relatively small size”.
Kurt Davis, who is counselor for humanitarian and cultural affairs at the mission, could not mask his pride as he delivered the keynote address at the annual fund-raising and awards banquet of the Ex-Correctional Officers Association Of Jamaica in Queens recently.
Davis highlighted a number of areas in which Jamaica has played critical roles at the UN, among them the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which the world body adopted last year after several years of deliberations. He noted that in the area of international peace, Jamaica has twice served on the UN Security Council, “a feat not often seen for a country our size”.
The group awarded four scholarships to students entering college for the first time this year, while its inaugural award for community development and philanthropy was made to Caribbean Food Delights, the family-owned business headed by Jamaican philanthropist Vincent Ho Sang.
Caribbean Food Delights is credited with being at the forefront of promoting developments within the Diaspora and the Jamaican mainland.
