20 games on in daCosta Cup today

TRINITYVILLE, St Thomas — Robert Lightbourne High will be going after only their second ever back-to-back win when they take on Yallahs High at 3:30 pm in their ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup Zone O game in Trinityville, St Thomas, today.

Robert Lightbourne, who started playing in the daCosta Cup competition in 2008, got off to a winning start on Saturday, beating former zone powerhouse St Thomas Technical 2-0, their first ever win over that team and their fifth win overall.

Today they will face a Yallahs team they had beaten on three previous occasions, the latest coming four years ago in 2012.

Yallahs were on the wrong end of a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Seaforth High on Saturday and will hope to turn around their form in a hurry if they are to avoid losing back-to-back games to start the season.

Meanwhile, there will be three match-ups of teams that won their opening games on Saturday to add space to the day’s schedule of 20 games.

Muschett High and Cedric Titus will meet for the first time in first-round action in a Zone C game in Wakefield; former champions Godfrey Stewart High will host Petersfield High in Zone D, while Old Harbour High and Kemps Hill meet in Zone N.

Cedric Titus lead Muschett High on goals scored after edging Holland High 2-1 on Saturday, but Muschett will have home advantage.

Petersfield have had the measure of Godfrey Stewart the last two years, winning three and drawing the other and conceding just once in those four games.

Both teams won easily on Saturday, with Petersfield cruising past Maude McLeod 4-0 and Godfrey Stewart beating Grange Hill 3-0, and the winner today will get a leg up on the race for the top spot in the zone.

Old Harbour High will be seeking to prove their 5-3 win over an already qualified Kemps Hill in the second round was no fluke and will try to get the better of a Kemps Hill team that has wrestled control of the zone away from the other schools.

Kemps Hill have consistently advanced past the first round of the competition for the past four years, while Old Harbour have blown hot and cold in their endeavours and just missed qualifying for the Inter-zone round last year.

Spalding High, May Day and Holmwood Technical were all winners in Zone G on Saturday and will seek to continue on winning ways today against Alston High, Christiana High and Bellefield High, respectively.

Tacky High and Iona High won their opening games in Zone J and will take on Horace Clarke High and St Mary Technical, respectively, while Port Antonio High take on Oracabessa High as they seek a second win in Zone L.

Former champions Vere Technical will hope to follow up their win over Bustamante High when they take on Tacius Golding in Zone N, while Paul Bogle High and Seaforth are also on the hunt for a second win when they take on St Thomas Technical and Morant Bay High, respectively, in Zone O.
