SIX HORSES CLAIMED
Six horses were claimed on the 11-race programme at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
Maria’s Glory was claimed from Christopher Pierre by Errol Pottinger for Huntley Beckford for $250,000; Megatron was claimed from Anthony Nunes by Gresford Smith for Dimple Ruddock for $250,000, and Cheers was taken from Paul Hylton by Lorne Kirlew for Carl Blake, also for $250,000 from the fourth event.
In the sixth event on a $180,000 claiming tag, Rudolph Hardial claimed Rules Of The Cat from Johnny Wilmot for Jacqueline Burgess and Emile Wright.
Lady Shankari was claimed by Andrew McDonald for Nicholas Miller for $450,000 from Wayne DaCosta, while Santana was claimed from Richard Azan by Michael Marlowe for himself for $450,000 from the seventh race.
DANIEL SATCHELL WINS SECOND EXERCISE RIDERS’ RACE
The new batch of exercise riders in their quest to become apprentice riders got their second chance to showcase their skills in the saddle in a claiming race over 800 metres last Saturday.
Victory went to the Victor Williams-trained Never Give Up, ridden by Daniel Satchell. Never Give Up won by one-and-a-quarter lengths over Rules Of The Cat (Romario Smith) and Awesome Cat (Devon Ellis) in 48.4 seconds.
“The feeling is very nice as this is a very good experience for me.
“The instruction to me by the trainer was to get a clean break and ask her (Never Give Up) to run the last two furlongs and that was what I did.
“I have been in racing for two years now and I was encouraged to get involved in the sport by my father Michael Satchell and my uncle Wesley Henry who are both jockeys,” Satchell told the Complete Racing Guide.
POLLY B SCORES EASILY IN FIERCE SPRINT
Polly B produced another telling run in deep stretch to win back-to-back races, this time among Overnight Allowance company over 1,000 metres straight last Saturday.
Trained by Rowan Mathie and ridden by Hakeem Pottinger, Polly B made all convincingly to win by two lengths in a very competitive field in a quick 58.2 seconds.
Jamaica Oaks heroine, A Thousand Stars (Omar Walker), was second, and Puddy Pooh (Odean Edwards) third.
