The ‘Buzz’ is now loud and clear
Buzz Nightmare, trained by Philip Feanny and ridden by Oneil Mullings, outpaced rivals in a highly competitive Graded Stakes None Such Sprint Trophy at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for the bay colt by Into Mischief – Queen Of The Battle as he romped home by two-and-a-half lengths in a quick 1:10.0 minutes for the 1,200-metre event on what was officially designated as a fast track.
The Complete Racing Guide analyses the event.
FIRST –Buzz Nightmare: Although he went with a mere 52.0kg, Buzz Nightmare dismissed his five rivals easily, including the current sprint champion Poker Star, to establish himself as one of the main contenders for the November 12 Caribbean Sprint championship on Superstakes Day.
With his main asset being speed, Buzz Nightmare shot to an early and led comfortably at the start, but was immediately tested by Poker Star approaching the home bend. Mullings let the ‘Buzz’ go in the straight, and the bay colt powered home for an emphatic win. The final time was just outside of the track record of 1:09.2 minutes. It was a good run by Buzz Nightmare, and with more scope for improvement racing fans may yet see even better from this horse. After the race Feanny said: “This horse is a very good horse, but he keeps on disappointing me as I know that he is much better than this and I also know what he can do. The time of 1:10.0 minutes is good; the track is fast and I was expecting a better time from him. I am pleased with his progress, as he (Buzz Nightmare) has had his problems in the past and it’s good to see him show some of his true class.”
SECOND –Campesino: This bay gelding has been very consistent in his races this season, earning with each run as he tries to garner enough stakes earnings to participate in the Diamond Mile set for December 10. Campesino ran really well to finish second, but was never going to be a threat to his more fancied stable companion. This run by Campesino showed that he has a place with the big boys.
THIRD –Franfield: Last year’s Superstakes hero, who was returning to competitive racing after nearly four months, did himself justice. Franfield might have been using this race as a stepping stone for the longer races to come, especially with the Superstakes just two months away.
FOURTH –Poker Star: Something must have gone wrong with the king of sprinting. Toting top weight of 57.0 kgs, Poker Star got a good break and was at one point on the heels of the winner approaching the home bend, but when Buzz Nightmare opened up in the straight, Poker Star did not respond as his usual acceleration was not there. For sure, Poker Star will be back.
FIFTH –Perfect Neighbour: a below-par performance.
SIXTH –Bubbling Kitten: The less said here the better.
