Ready for more Kulcha Cally

Long-time dancehall fans from Spanish Town are familiar with singjay Kulcha Cally, a contemporary of deejays Stitchie and Ricky Stereo.

Now living in South Florida, he is still recording. His latest songs are Are You Ready For Love and Reality.

The former is produced by Paul Virgo for Working Class Music.

Kulcha Cally was born Carlton McLaren in Hanover, but grew up in Spanish Town where he learned the dancehall ropes performing at dances with the City Light sound system.

“Wi used to play inna place like Rivoli an’ Brunswick Avenue. Nobody trouble yuh…dancehall run from dusk till dawn,” he recalled.

Kulcha Cally kicked off his recording career in 1993 with Since You Went Away, a song produced by Sly and Robbie.

Since migrating to South Florida, he has maintained his musical ties by performing on a number of reggae shows and recording for labels like Working Class Music, producers of Reality.
