Nelson rides 100th winner in Canada
Three-time Jamaican champion jockey Dane ‘Warrior Chief’ Nelson rode his 100th winner on Canadian soil when he booted Sarah’s Charm to victory in the fifth race at the Northlands Park racetrack in Edmonton on Wednesday.
“It is just a wonderful feeling to win 100 races internationally. It is just fantastic…It is just amazing. I am just happy that I could have reached such a milestone,” Nelson said.
Nelson, who is riding in Canada for the second consecutive year, said that he will continue to do the hard work.
“Hard work, dedication, determination and confidence are just a few of the elements that bring success. I have been working hard as I want to elevate my career and reach the top of my profession. I will continue to do what I am doing,” he said.
Nelson won 48 races last year in his first season in Canada and this season he has already booted home 52 winners.
Nelson’s victories came at Assiniboia Downs (42 winners) and Northlands Park (58 winners). He also rode at other tracks in Canada, including the popular Woodbine racetrack in Toronto.
He revealed that he would once again visit Woodbine racetrack this year before going to ride at the Santa Rosa Park in Trinidad and Tobago.
Nelson’s career chart reads: 916 winners at Caymanas Park, 100 winners in Canada and five winners in Trinidad and Tobago – 1,021 winners overall.
