Supreme Ventures two-year-old series set to sparkle
The juvenile season, where the new stars of racing are usually found, is set for the annual boost of the Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) three-race series, starting with the Cash Pot ‘Only One for Me’ Trophy event scheduled to be run over six furlongs (1,200m) on Saturday October 15, 2016. The Cash Pot ‘Only One for Me’ race carries a purse of $2.95m.
The other races in the SVL series are the Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy (1,400m – $3.6m) on November 26, and the well-established Boxing Day fixture of the SVL Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes over a mile. This year Boxing Day will be celebrated on December 27.
Details of the three races in the SVL series will be formally announced next week, but based on the number of two-year-olds who have already signalled their quality and class, racing fans will be in for some really competitive races.
Probably leading the pack right now is the Richard Azan-trained Money Magnet, followed closely by She’s A Maneater from the barn of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, Very Classic and Balazo both trained by Anthony Nunes and Armageddon also trained by DaCosta.
Of the aforementioned top choices for the Cash Pot ‘Only One for Me’ Trophy, Money Magnet is given pride of place, especially after her spectacular victory on September 25 in the Keeling Memorial Cup over five and a half furlongs. Money Magnet was winning her second race then from three starts, and she put Very Classic and the much touted Mr Universe in their places.
She’s A Maneater created quite a stir when she made her debut on September 24 over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) winning by over 13 lengths in a very fast 1:05.3 minutes.
Balazo was on the verge of winning his debut run by over eight lengths but veered from his winning path, ending up crashing into the outside rails. Balazo must be considered if he starts.
This first in the series of SVL races is going to set the trend while providing a significantly increase in purse money for the winning connections.
