Anglicans appeal for help for victims of Hurricane Matthew
The Anglican Church in the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands has launched the “Diocesan Church Fund — Haiti Appeal,” which, in the words of the Lord Bishop the Rt Revd Dr Howard Gregory, is “to assist our brothers and sisters in this somewhat impoverished island and other areas where there is suffering”.
Announcement of the establishment of the fund was made by the lord bishop in his appeal which has been addressed especially to congregations of the diocese across Jamaica and also includes calls for help for other people, who have been affected.
Donations can be made by cheques to the Diocesan Church Fund at Church House, 2 Caledonia Avenue, Cross Roads, St Andrew. Donations to be received by November 30 will be passed to the bishop of Haiti.
Bishop Gregory has reminded his congregations and other interested individuals of the extent of the damage created by Hurricane Matthew, which has caused the death of over 100 lives lost so far, as well as many others who are hurt, displaced, and otherwise victims of the disastrous hurricane.
The bishop has also called for prayers, not only for the people of Haiti, Cuba, and The Bahamas, but other places devastated by Hurricane Matthew and for South Florida where many Caribbean immigrants, Jamaicans among them, are being affected.
