Gardens FC stepped up two places to second on the Red Stripe Premier League standings with 10 points after defeating fourth-placed Portmore United FC 2-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
A goal in each half from Lennox Russell (41st minute) and Kimani Arbouine (75th) gave Arnett Gardens three valuable point to move up three places behind leaders Humble Lion on 12 points.
Arnett Gardens were registering their third game of the early campaign against one win and a defeat.
It was a victory that Assistant Coach Eugene Williams welcomed.
“The storm warning set us back a week in our preparation. As you can see, a number of our players had to be substituted because of cramps. This as a result we did not get to train as we would have liked, [so] to get this victory is a positive sign in the right direction,” he said.
Portmore boss Linval Dixon thought his “players never turned up”.
“We were very flat from the beginning of the game and lost our disciplne. We know that this team is a quality team playing at home and we began to rush the game… and gave up a lot of possession that caused our downfall,” he mourned.
