Simpson Miller condemns gruesome killing of Spanish Town five
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Opposition Leader, Portia Simpson Miller, has condemned the murder of five people in the Africa Community of March Pen Road in Spanish Town this morning.
Simpson Miller, in a release, said she is not only devastated but “outraged that four children, ages two, nine, 13 and 17 were among five killed, when criminals kicked in the doors of two houses and opened fire, hitting seven people”.
The gunmen reportedly torched the houses with the occupants inside.
“Once again our children are under attack as crime continues to spiral out of control. Our children are no longer safe in their homes and communities. We owe it to our children to provide them with safe and nurturing communities in which they can thrive and achieve their full potential. We must protect our children,” Simpson Miller said.
The Opposition Leader has called on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to urgently pay attention to the “out of control” crime, adding that the nation needs to be told about the long and short term plans, as well as the resource allocation to tackle crime.
