The ‘Vision’ is now clear
Although Vision created a mild upset to beat her more fancied rivals to win the Ronron Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday, trainer Wayne DaCosta said after the race that he was always confident that his charge would run well, with winning being a strong possibility.
Offering odds of 12-1, Vision, under Omar Walker, after being challenged for the lead by Classy Aviator (Aaron Chatrie) and Pure Amazement (Robert Halledeen), sprinted away from rivals in deep stretch to score by one-and-a-half lengths in the Restricted Stakes event over six furlongs (1,200m).
Classy Aviator finished second ahead of Pure Amazement and Bubbling Kitten, the mount of Delroy Beharie in 1:12.1 minutes behind splits 23.2 and 46:1 seconds.
“ Vision is a really good horse. He came from far behind to beat Dreamliner in the Keeling Memorial Cup last year as a two-year-old, but had his fair share of problems in the latter part of last year.
“We took our time and got him to the races again and he won a good race in August over this distance. Coming into Saturday’s race he worked a brilliant 1:06.3 minutes for 1,100 metres and the 1,000-metre in 1:00.0 minutes and so we fancied his chances.
“The performance was good; he did what he had to. He got a good break and that was that. I can say that Vision is back,” DaCosta said.
Walker was also happy with Vision’s performance.
“Normally the inside draw would be difficult, but he got a good break and went straight to the lead. The number one horse came for me but I kept my horse relaxed and got him in his groove.
“Turning for home, I saw that they (other horses) weren’t passing, and when I asked him to go in the last furlong and a half out, he powered home to win quite easily,” Walker said.
