Denroy Morgan stands for unity
Denroy Morgan has covered The Wailers’ standard Get Up, Stand Up. Released last Friday, the song is from the singer’s forthcoming album, Musical Unity.
“The flavour of the album is my spiritual journey. I have done some new things, which include four spoken word songs, and I have used speeches of His Majesty (Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie 1) who I believe is one of the greatest writers where world leaders are concerned,” said Morgan.
Musical Unity is co-produced by Coozie Mellers and the 70-year-old Morgan. Sidney Mills, keyboardist with Steel Pulse, also worked on the album.
The May Pen-born Morgan has lived in the United States since the mid-1960s. Though he is known to contemporary music fans as patriarch of Grammy-winning group Morgan Heritage, he has been recording from the 1970s.
Morgan had a big hit in 1981 with the dance single, I’ll Do Anything For You. Salvation, his last album, was released in 1998.
