Foreign Affairs Ministry monitoring J’cans in Florida in aftermath of Hurricane Matthew
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s consul general to Miami, Franz Hall, is reporting that he has not received any reports of Jamaicans in the United States being severely affected by the passage of Hurricane Matthew, which left at least 32 people dead in the US.
“At this time, efforts continue with community leaders to ascertain whether any Jamaicans have been adversely impacted given the vast swath of destruction wrought by the hurricane,” Hall told OBSERVER ONLINE on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said that the consulate has a mailing list of Jamaicans in the South East region of the USA, including the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, all of which were affected by Hurricane Matthew.
“As this list is by no means comprehensive, we also make contact with community leaders and request their assistance in advising whether Jamaicans have been affected by natural disasters.
“When information is obtained that Jamaicans are affected, then efforts are made to contact the individual or family of the individual, as necessary,” Hall said.
