JC headline early qualifiers for FLOW Super Cup
Former champions Jamaica College (JC) headline a list of four early qualifiers for the third instalment of the revamped ISSA/FLOW Super Cup scheduled to kick off on October 21.
JC, the 2014 champions, are joined by Kingston College, Wolmer’s Boys’ and Holy Trinity as the teams so far confirmed to carry the flag for the Corporate Area schools in the four-week long ‘Champions League of Schoolboy Football’ competition against their rural counterparts.
The Old Hope Road-based team currently holds an unassailable lead in Group B on 16 points, so too does Kingston College (28 points) in Group C and Wolmer’s (30 points) in Group F. Holy Trinity (19 points) are assured Group E honours with one game still to be contested.
All games for the knockout tournament, which will involves the top eight teams from both Manning and daCosta Cup competitions, will be played at the National Stadium and Sabina Park in Kingston and Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay.
Over $2 million will be shared among the 16 schools, along with other incentives such as full kits Nike of boots as well as the offsetting of costs for participation.
The winner will once again take home a grand prize of $1 million, while all participating schools will have the opportunity to win cash for school development, which will be determined by their progression from each round.
Also, in addition to the new Super Cup trophy which will be unveiled later this season, there will be the introduction of the Super Cup MVP Award to be presented in memory of late St George’s College captain Dominic James. James was the only winner of the two Super Cup trophies, playing for Jamaica College in 2014 and St Georges College in 2015.
