Road reopens, other plans ahead
Discussions are under way by the National Works Agency (NWA) to rebuild sections of Constant Spring Road in the Corporate Area. This is according to NWA’s m anager of c ommunications and c ustomer s ervices Stephen Shaw.
“There is a discussion taking place as it pertains to the Constant Spring Road area. The rebuilding process is expected to take place along West Kings House Road to Manor Park,” he said.
Shaw was speaking to the Jamaica Observer’s Auto yesterday about the emergency work that had been completed on the roadway earlier this week, due to a collapsing sewer line under the major thoroughfare. The road had been closed since last Thursday and caused massive traffic jams throughout the Corporate Area as motorists sought alternative routes.
The communications and customer services manager confirmed that that section of the roadway has been repaired and is fully reopened to vehicular traffic.
“It was a difficult task, but the work team did a fabulous job in completing it within the deadline. They were working on a system that was live. The sewage was about three-and-a-half feet deep,” he said.
Shaw added that there were times that some of the workers had to be lowered 20 feet into the ground to get the work completed.
The Constant Spring roadway is the second most heavily used traffic corridor in Jamaica, next to the Mandela Highway in St Catherine, which sees up to 45,000 vehicles daily.
