TOK makes Empire’s cut
Dancehall music took the spotlight in this week’s episode of the FOX TV hit series Empire which aired Wednesday. Sexy Gal by Jamaican-Canadian artiste Kreesha Turner and T.O.K received prominent play.
“It was a pleasant surprise,” said an elated Allistaire ‘Alex’ McCalla, former member of T.O.K. “It was a song that we did in early 2015 and it just shows the power of the music. It’s a really good feeling considering that Empire is, if not the biggest shows on TV right now, and to have your song featured on that show of that magnitude is just really powerful.”
Turner was also excited about the placement of the track on Empire.
“I was hyped when the show’s ground control reached out to clear the song. With the wave of dancehall in the pop charts, it’s exciting to see it reaching even to major networks like FOX,” she told Splash.
Empire, now in its third season, focuses on the Lyon family, which runs a hip hop record label. The drama stars Oscar-nominated Terrence Howard, Taraji P Henson, Bryshere Y Gray, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, and Grace Gealey.
