Woman to be sentenced next month for acquiring passport in another name
A woman who pleaded guilty to acquiring a passport in another name is to know her fate next month.
Nadine Davis pleaded guilty to making a false declaration when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.
The court was told that on July 31, 2002, Davis, with intent to the deceive Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency, went to the office and declared that she was Sophia Daley. On the said day she was issued with the passport. However, it was subsequently discovered that she had used a fictitious name, and she was arrested and charged.
Prior to setting a sentence date on Monday, Parish Judge Maxine Ellis said that she was unaware that people are so stupid to be doing something like that.
“Lack of understanding,” Davis uttered.
“No, that is criminal,” Judge Ellis replied.
The judge then told Davis that ignorance had nothing to do with her action.
“Because you know your name, when the passport come you know your name. Jamaican people [say] if they cannot read they recognise their name on bulla. Check if she get turn down for visa and a come reborn like Matrix, your face not changing though,” Ellis said.
A fingerprint order was subsequently made and Davis had her bail extended until November 25.
