She’s A Maneater slams field in Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy
In another commanding performance, the Winston Kong-bred and owned brilliant filly She’s A Maneater crippled rivals in deep stretch to land the 12th running of the $2.95-million Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy in fine style at Caymanas Park yesterday.
The Graded Stakes race for native-bred two-year-olds over 1,200 metres was the first leg of the ultra-rich and prestigious Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) ‘Triple Crown’ Series, which is worth $11.55 million (inclusive of $1-million bonus).
The second leg in the series is scheduled for November 26 with the 12th running of Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy over 1,400 metres for a purse of $3.6 million, and the third on final leg to be run on December 27 (Boxing Day) with the running of the $4-million SVL Two-Year-Old Stakes over 1,600 metres.
Meanwhile, with Omar Walker doing the riding honours for many-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, She’s A Maneater got a brilliant start and was hustled up to do battle with the Richard Azan-trained Money Magnet (Bebeto Harvey up) swinging into the half-mile turn.
She’s A Maneater then pointed her head in front approaching the home bend and when Walker said go at the top of the lane, the bay filly by Natural Selection – Ahwhofah by Royal Minister responded well and sprinted away from rivals to win by an ever-increasing six lengths, her second victory from as many starts.
The expected challenge in deep stretch from Money Magnet didn’t materialise as the chestnut filly just managed to hold on by a neck for second position ahead of Armageddon (Ameth Robles aboard), who came with a strong run from last place earlier in the race.
The winning of 1:11.3 minutes was just slower than the stakes record time of 1:10.4 minutes set by Princess Popstar, who won this race in 2013.
“This is a very nice horse and there is still more room for improvement. When I asked her to go at the top of the straight, she just powered home easily,” Walker said.
Apprentice Bebeto Harvey was not to be left out as he continued his good riding form which landed him yet another three-timer.
Harvey’s winners were Fiery Path for owner/trainer Donovan Plummer in the first race, Prince Kamali for trainer Patrick Lynch in the fourth race, and Maria’s Glory for Errol Pottinger in the eighth race.
Also on the 11-race card, female apprentice rider Andree Powell celebrated her 26th birthday in fine style after guiding Major Force to victory in the sixth race over 1,500 metres.
“It is a very wonderful feeling to win a race on my birthday. I am just happy right now as this victory means a lot and it has started the celebration,” Powell told the Jamaica Observer.
Racing continues tomorrow as Horse of the Year Seeking My Dream takes on nine rivals in the Alex’s Import Limited-sponsored Gold Cup going over 1,400 metres for a purse of $1.5 million.
