Seven book FLOW Super Cup spots from D’Cup Inter-zone

MONTEGO BAY, St James — DaCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) led four former champions into the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/FLOW Super Cup competition after topping their respective Inter-zone rounds yesterday.

Seven of the eight daCosta Cup places were filled yesterday and the final one will be known tomorrow, from Zone Seven, following the playing of three rescheduled games.

STETHS; Cornwall College, who have a season-long 13-game perfect run; Rusea’s High; Clarendon College; and Dinthill Technical will all be included in the draw that will take place today and will be accompanied by Ocho Rios High and Little London.

It will be the first time in the cash rich FLOW Super Cup for Rusea’s High, Ocho Rios and Little London, who were one of the best third-placed teams after the first round of the competition.

Five schools — Cornwall College, Rusea’s High, STETHS, Ocho Rios, and Dinthill Technical — were perfect through the Inter-zone round, while two — Cornwall College and Rusea’s High — have not allowed a goal.

Vere Technical have not allowed a goal in two games, a win and a draw.

Meanwhile, six of eight runners-up who will contest the quarter-finals of the daCosta Cup competition were also decided yesterday — Petersfield, Spot Valley, Holmwood Technical, Manchester High, Paul Bogle High, and Fair Prospect High.

At Jarrett Park, Cornwall College made it lucky 13 as they extended their perfect run with a 4-0 win over Green Island High, with Jourdaine Fletcher scoring twice in the second half and Garnett Hudson getting one after Peter-Lee Vassell had given them the lead in the first half with his fifth goal of the round.

Cornwall College barely got out of first gear as they also pushed their goal tally in the round to 13.

Jovoney Brown scored a double and Denroy Miller got the other as STETHS beat Mile Gully 3-1 at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex to top Zone Three, while Shawn Bradford also bagged a double for Rusea’s High, who turned back Spot Valley High 4-0 in the second game of the double-header at Jarrett Park.

National Under-20 player Deshane Beckford also got on the scoresheet for Rusea’s in only his second appearance this season after a knee operation, while Daniel Reid scored the other goal.

Mickel McCoy scored in his third-straight game for Ocho Rios as Delano Allen and Michael Campbell also got one goal for Ocho Rios as they beat Alston High 3-0 at Drax Hall.

Alwayne Harvey scored twice and Kaheem Parris and Newton Nicholson got the others for Dinthill Technical in their 4-0 beating of Brimmer Vale High.

Clarendon College booked their spot by beating Lacovia High 3-1 and topping Zone Four with seven points, one more than Manchester High, who came from 1-2 down to beat Spalding High 3-2.

Little London continued their fairytale season by topping Zone Eight on more goals scored after ending their Inter-zone round tied with Paul Bogle High on seven points and the same goal-difference of two.

The Westmoreland school scored seven goals to Paul Bogle’s three after a 3-2 win over Kemps Hill at Juici Field — the second time they were beating a Clarendon team in Clarendon by the same margin.

Last week they had come from behind twice to beat Garvey Maceo.

Three schools are on four points in Zone Seven, led Vere Technical, who have a goal-difference of four after beating Bog Walk 4-0 yesterday, their second game.

Seaforth High, who beat Glenmuir High 1-0, are on zero goal-difference, while Bog Walk are on minus three.
