Dominica Gov’t votes against motion of no confidence in PM
ROSEAU, Dominica, (CMC) — A motion expressing a lack of confidence in Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was defeated in the Dominica Parliament on Wednesday following a verbal clash between the Speaker and the Opposition Leader Lennox Linton.
Linton, who was piloting the motion, refused to apologise after the Speaker Alix Boyd-Knights, said he had made a statement which she termed to be disrespectful of the chair.
She asked on numerous occasions for Linton to apologise in order to continue his contribution, but Linton responded on each occasion by saying “I will not apologise”.
When the motion was eventually put before the Parliament, the Government used its majority to vote against the motion. There was one abstention. The opposition members did not participate in the vote.
