MARVIN ‘Fat Man’ Campbell Sr was formally charged yesterday with five counts of murder after he was questioned in relation to the brutal slaying of five people on March Pen Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on October 9.

Campbell, who police say is a member of the notorious Klansman gang, was named as the prime suspect for the killings. He is accused of leading a group of gunmen to his family’s house in March Pen, where the five were killed and the house torched.

Campbell, who was previously charged with incest and rape, is to appear in court next Tuesday.

The March Pen victims were identified as Salesha Evans, 24, and her nine-year-old son Revaughn Evans; Venisha Bartley, 22, and her two-year-old daughter Koyandra Wynter; and 14-year-old Marvin Campbell Jr.

It was reported that a group of heavily armed men, estimated about 15, including some dressed like police and wearing masks, went to a section of the community called Africa Settlement about 1:40 am, kicked in the doors to four houses and opened fire, hitting seven occupants, before setting the houses on fire. A man and a teenage girl were also injured in the attack.

A few days after the massacre Campbell was named as a person of interest by the police high command. A week later he turned himself over to the police, accompanied by popular Spanish Town minister of religion Bishop Rowan Edwards.

He was then handed over to senior investigators from the Major Investigations Division, but wasn’t questioned until this week when he was assigned a lawyer.

Police allege that Campbell had threatened the victims of the March Pen massacre to prevent them from pressing charges of incest against him. The victims, including his 14-year-old son, were said to be related to the sexual assault victim.
