Weekly Round-up: Maxfield Avenue don killed in US… #X6MurderTrial under way… Shabba Ranks awarded OD
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Reputed Jamaican gang leader Robert Davis, alias ‘Rodigan’, of Maxfield Avenue in Kingston, and three other men were killed, while 11 people were shot and injured when armed men invaded a birthday celebration being held at a restaurant in Los Angeles, California over the weekend.
Two Jamaican men arrested on suspicion of murder following the bloody gun battle were on Tuesday released without charges.
However, the killing of Rodigan, whom the police said was the financier of the Rat Bat Gang, has caused unease in the Maxfield Avenue area, and could spawn renewed clashes with the rival Raspberry Gang.
The investigator in the ongoing trial of businessman Patrick Powell for the shooting death of 17-year-old Khajeel Mais was on Thursday grilled for his handling of the crime scene, while a policeman reported that Powell is yet to hand over his weapon for ballistic testing.
In other news, deejay Shabba Ranks was among over 200 outstanding Jamaicans who were on Monday presented with National Honours and Awards by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen at the annual Heroes’ Day ceremony at King’s House in St Andrew.
His Order of Distinction was in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the Jamaican music industry.
