When searching for a service provider, the Deputy CEO who is also responsible for New Business Development, advises property owners to look for professionals who are not only efficient but also familiar with building codes and other regulations. They should also be knowledgeable about the area in which they are employed to work such as building repair, painting, cleaning, pest control or landscaping.

He has further advice for property owners:

• If you opt to use a facilities maintenance company, find one that is efficient and effective. In the final analysis, it will cost you less.

• Work with the professionals to establish an effective preventive maintenance programme.

• Inspect buildings regularly for: deterioration in infrastructure; insect and other pest infestation; inadequate cleaning.

• Being reactive is always costlier than being proactive since it costs more to prevent problems than to address them.

• Systems and technologies to increase effectiveness are always changing. Ensure that your service provider remains current.
