Superbolt no longer bored
After Superbolt’s victory in a twoyear- old maiden race on Saturday, trainer Richard Azan revealed that his horse was getting a bit bored in his stall and he wanted to give him a run.
And what a run it was. Superbolt (Adore The Gold – Patty Girl) dispatched his seven rivals with ease, defeating Duty First by two lengths as outsider Night Light took third position in the five-furlong (1,000m) round event.
“I think it was a great performance by Superbolt who was able to put away this field of horses.
“I gave him the run because he was getting a bit bored with his work, and so I wanted to give him a little run to see if he was able to get more serious in the race. He did, and he won the race.
“I think that this run will do a lot for him because he is a very talented colt and will only improve from here as he goes forward in his racing career,” Azan told the Complete Racing Guide.
When asked if he would consider racing Superbolt in the Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy next month, Azan said: “Let’s see how he comes out of the race first. We want to see how things go with him before we make any decision.”
Ridden by in-form apprentice Bebeto Harvey, Superbolt raced prominently in fourth position behind Princess Brianna (Hakeem Pottinger), Duty First (Paul Francis), who recovered well after a horrible start, and stable companion Tough Cookie (Odeen Edwards) approaching the final bend.
Turning for home against the inside rails, Duty First looked the likely winner at the furlong pole, but Superbolt responded well and flew past Duty First in the final stages of the race.
Owned by NYA, Superbolt ran 1,000 metres round in 1:01.3 minutes comprised of quarterly splits of 23.4 and 47.4 seconds.
