Gospel concert lives up to billing
DESPITE an hour-long delay and a short power outage, ‘We A Come Far’ held at the Covenant Life Christian Church on Molynes Road in St Andrew, last Saturday, was a success.
Hosted by Minister Blessed and Sean Lypher, who were the headliners, the gospel concert was also used to celebrate their 10-year milestone in the business.
Minister Blessed led a dynamic set with songs including Dandy Shandy, Shake Off Yuh Problem, and Glad Bag Buss. The dancehall-gospel number Rep Christ was well recieived and had the audience dancing. The EDM-infused Be Like You, featuring Christina Roshay, also found its mark.
Roshay had opened the show with her indie-reggae-rock sound, with an engaging performance.
After performing We A Come From Far with Minster Blessed, Lypher intensified the energy with his reggae-hip-hop infused sound. The packed crowd recited line by line as he delivered songs including God Watch Ova Mi and Make One.
He also took advantage of a brief power outage to share his story and rap lyrics a cappella, all of which were well received. Surprise acts Prodi (formerly Prodigal Son) and DAJ performed as part of his set.
Florida-based O2DR, formerly, Ordinary, also had a good showing.
DJ Sticko also kept the audience entertained.
The organisers said they were happy with the concert. Both said they plan to release new tracks by year’s end.
Patrons gave the event thumbs up.
“The show was great. I have seen that they have learned and improved from the first year, and they have done well,” said Gloria Isaacs.
“It was great. I really enjoyed it. Every artiste that performed today did well. The only negative is just that sometimes I couldn’t hear the artistes very clear from the back. Outside of that, the vibe was good, the ministry was good,” said her husband, Martin.
