My Kingston — Richard Pandohie

What are your earliest memories of Kingston?

Going to Hope Gardens with my mother on a Sunday to people-watch.

What’s the most memorable meal that you have enjoyed in Kingston?

Eating roasted doctor fish on Washington Boulevard on a Friday night. Loved it!

What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston for a day?

One day? Apart from trying to extend my tenure, I would get my image put on the airport billboard welcoming visitors to Kingston (laughs).

What would be your recommendations to a first-time visitor to Kingston?

Take your time and absorb the culture. Get some roadside food; take a fisherman canoe out to Lime Cay; attend at least one dancehall event during the week; and get yourself invited to someone’s home where you can truly feel our love and good vibes.

What is the calling card of a great leader?

A person who is able to motivate the people around them to constantly perform above and beyond their own expectations to deliver superior results.

What is a simple tool for maintaining standards in any field?

Visualise that the product or service is being used by your family and loved ones.

What needs to be tweaked in The Rock’s current export strategy?

We need to be much more aggressive with research, development and innovation in order to produce more goods that will excite global consumers.

The global farm-to-table movement has gained traction on The Rock, how can large-scale manufacturers and distributors gain successful inclusion in this artisanal market?

It truly presents an avenue for us to take our primary products, such as cow’s milk, and convert to home-grown whipping cream, butter, cheese, et cetera, which will add to the authencity of the Jamaican gastronomic experience, and replace imported products.

How does a brand maintain consumer confidence?

By consistently delivering high quality and amazing experience.

Briefcase versus portfolio/padfolio?

My preference is a backpack; it gives me more freedom to interact with my environment.

My preference is a backpack; it gives me more freedom to interact with my environment.
