Cop arrested on corruption charge
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) today reported that Police Constable Garrett Gowans of the Falmouth Police Station was on Friday charged for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.
It is alleged that Gowans solicited 20,000 from a Trelawny businesswoman who hosted an event at her premises without a permit from the police.
The woman later reported the matter to MOCA.
Gowans was arrested by investigators from MOCA after he collected $5000 from her, with intention to return to collect an additional $15,000.
His arrest took place at the Falmouth Police Station in the presence of a Justice of the Peace who witnessed the transaction.
Following an interview session, charges were laid against the constable.
He will appear in Trelawny Parish Court on Wednesday, November 9.
