It wasn’t God’s will
Hillary Clinton

It wasn’t God’s will

From now until eternity people will be inventing and analysing reasons for Hillary Clinton’s loss of the election that she and her devotees felt she was destined to win. Many thought it would fall in her lap like an overripe fruit. In their mania they will blame the media, right wing haters, Russia, the e-mail scandal, and WikiLeaks for turning the electorate against her.

But I’m certain they won’t consider that there was someone against Hillary who didn’t want her to become president and no one or force on Earth could have stopped him. That someone was God.

As a Christian, and student of the

Bible and theology, I am convinced that had it been God’s will for Hillary to be elected president, neither Donald Trump nor circumstance could have withstood her; for it is the sovereign God who created man, instituted government and selects those who rule.

Scripture is replete with examples and declarations of this; so I will look at one instance. Nebuchadnezzar (634-562) was the mightiest king of Babylon. He ruled from 605-562. This was an eternity of a reign in a time when kings were changed sometimes weekly. His mighty conquests included defeating Egyptians, Assyrians, Syrians and, of course, God’s people, the Israelites, whom he deported to Babylon. But he was also a wicked and vain man. At the height of his career God decided to warn him to repent before judging him. God did so in a dream in which He likened him to a tree visible to everyone; its shade and fruit sustained the world. Then an angel came crying “cut down the tree”, “let him be drenched with the dew of heaven…” This was the judgement of Nebuchadnezzar.

Why? Chapter 4 in the New Living Translation says: “The purpose of this decree is that the whole world may understand that the Most High (God) rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses, even the lowliest of humans.” v 17 (my emphasis). This was a warning to him, but more than that it was a lesson to all that God rules over the kingdoms of the world and He gives them to even the worst of men to carry out His will. That as a sovereign, it is He who decides who rules on Earth, is inescapable. Renowned commentators Jamieson, Fausset and Brown said of this verse: “It is not one’s talents, excellence, or noble birth, but God’s will which elevates to the throne.”

Nebuchadnezzar refused to repent and he became mad and was driven from mankind and lived like a beast for seven years.

In the King James version, Psalm 75:6- 7 says: “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.”

Beyond the talents, institutions and machinations of man is a sovereign God doing His will in the administration of the universe and he puts up and takes down men to achieve His ends.

So it wasn’t His will for Hillary Clinton to take the presidency.

There is another reason she was denied the greatest prize: her pride. For months now, in preparation for this election, I have been reading about the Clintons since their entry into public life, and I am disgusted at their reported disregard for the law and contempt for Americans in their blind devotion to further their own interests. The accusations are that she has disregarded the law in the way she conducted herself in office.

Bill and Hillary set up their Foundation in 1997, ostensibly to give charitable help to the needy around the world. Then they were worth $10 million, and if anything should be poorer after giving money to the needy. Now they are worth well over $100 million, and it is now coming to light that the foundation has ended up enriching them both. They have used the platform and their former offices to earn from making speeches to countries and organisation and earn donations to the foundation that go to expensive salaries and other perquisites of office. The FBI is investigating the foundation.

Other allegations are that she set up a private server in her home, erased the e-mail she received and sent on it, destroying evidence even after receiving a subpoena. This is part of a tradition of deception.

I believe to save the country and the world God prevented her from taking the highest office, and He has begun her day of reckoning for all she has done to the astonishment and sadness of many people. It may be a long day.
