Ikonji carries the ‘fire’
Singjay Ikonji is not afraid to say he is a roots artiste in the tradition of legends like Marley and Tosh. Their influence can be heard on his EP My People.
The six-song project was released early this year by Osujah Records, a fledgling company based in St Ann. It contains the title song and Fire Rastaman.
“Mi jus’ come fi deliver di message like Peter an’ Bob wid di same energy. Even wid dancehall yuh have fi have a strong message or di youths will go astray,” said Ikonji.
Born Tommy Gayle, Ikonji is from Mountain View in East Kingston, where he started his career in talent contests. Now 35-years-old, he has been recording for 11 years.
