Nothing Beats a Good Sequel

That sequel being the Table Talk Food Awards – The Cayman Islands Edition, presented by The Best Dressed Chicken, held last Thursday night inside the lavish ballroom at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach House. The culinary spectacle, recognised as the progeny of The Rock’s Table Talk Food Awards, returned for take two with a packed room of entrepreneurs, restaurateurs, government officials, Cayman media personalities, and passionate foodies.

The formalities flowed seamlessly. At the helm were Cayman Islands media industry veteran Vicki Wheaton and Table Talk Food Awards conceptualiser and chair Novia McDonald-Whyte, who introduced a new cabal of judges, this year’s nominees, and, of course, the awardees.

Chief among which were Kirk Market — one of the island’s most-celebrated grocery stores — that copped the Lifetime Achievement Award. The coveted Restaurant of the Year was dispatched to Catch Restaurant & Lounge, an ocean-front al fresco nook in West Bay, Cayman Islands which specialises in gourmet surf and turf fare. Their own chef, Jon Herzog, copped the Chef of the Year title. In addition, the prestigious Chairman’s Award was presented by The Best Dressed Chicken to renowned restaurateur Clemens Guettler.

In the midst of lusty applause, Sunday Social takes you to the awards. See more in the upcoming issue of Thursday Life, and next Sunday’s Style Observer.
