SEVENTY-FIVE correctional officers have been recognised by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) for their yeoman and sterling contribution to the organisation.

The recipients were honoured during the department’s national honours and awards ceremony held at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston, on Tuesday.

State minister in the Ministry of National Security, Senator Pearnel Charles, Jr in his address lauded the recipients for their distinguished service to the DCS and urged them to continue.

“Your service is making a difference, it has made a difference. It has been of value to your country, to your countrymen and women. It is a very important part of securing the future of this country,” he said.

In her remarks, Commissioner of Corrections Ina Hunter commended the awardees, noting that they are being recognised for their hard work, dedication and commitment. She also lauded the family members of the honourees for playing an integral role in supporting the officers.

Meanwhile, Angella Edwards Johnson expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients and pledged that they will continue to provide dedicated service.

The DCS falls under the ambit of the Ministry of National Security and consists of seven adult correctional centres, one adult remand centre, four juvenile centres and 17 community-service (probation) offices located islandwide.
