Will In Charge could take reins in ‘Trainers’ trophy race
Consistent colt, Will In Charge, trained by Robert Pearson, has more than an even chance of winning the United Racehorse Trainers’ Association (URTA) Trophy race at Caymanas Park today.
The URTA Trophy is the principal call on the United Racehorse Trainers Association’s annual racing card, but it will also feature a race to be run in the name of the association’s president, Dale Murphy. There are also other races on the card to be run bearing the names of trainers that include Robert Darby Sr, Dennis Pryce, Lawrence Freemantle, Albert Chong, Lorenzo Robinson, Patrick Smellie and the Frank Parham Trophy.
The URTA Trophy call will be run amongst native-bred three-year-olds, imported three-year-olds and upward three-year-olds (NW3) lifetime and maiden. The seventh race on the programme, the URTA, has attracted a field of seven going 1,820 metres for a purse of $768,000 at approximately 3:20 pm, with the first post at noon.
Will In Charge, one of the top-performing three-year-old in the just-concluded three-year-old season, is yet to pass the post in front since his maiden win before entering the 2,000 Guineas, where he was beaten by Future King and finished sixth of the nine runners.
Since then, he has been very consistent by finishing fourth twice, with three back-to-back second-place runs and a third place in his last run. None of his earlier conquerors is around today, which clearly opens the way to be unsaddled in the winner’s enclosure.
Awesome Destiny, who had

Little Big Horn and he lightly weighted
Francia’s Pride could offer most.
Nonetheless, the Royal Lancaster Trophy, a native-bred, two-year-old maiden, special weight scamper over 1,000 metres round for a purse of $8,000, has greater interest surrounding its running and will attract most attention with a number of the seven runners running for the first time and angling for a performance that will enhance entry in the remaining two SVL Two-Year-Old Series races.
In this race, the chestnut colt Akash, trained by Louis Richard, disappointed on last when ridden by champion jockey Shane Ellis. But he seems to be better prepared for this and will again be given the opportunity to make amends, with the field appearing to be more manageable and his main danger being Silver Rocket.
Silver Rocket, a bay colt trained by Fitzroy Glispie, will now be ridden by Ellis. Both Silver Rocket and Akash looked well in their gallops coming into the race.
