Brett Ikon stretching beyond local limits
Singer Brett Ikon has his sights set on making his name on the international scene. He is currently promoting his latest single Rubber Band Man.
Produced by Cargill “Mr Doo” Lawrence, Rubber Band Man talks about living the high life.
“It’s like you’re at the club with your friends and you’re buying all this liquor and living it up and having a good time,” Ikon told the Jamaica Observer.
Describing himself as a “tropical house” artiste, Ikon said versatility and music with an international flair is what makes him stand out from the crowded music scene.
“I am bringing a kind of versatility and my Jamaican culture mixed with an international flair. I also sing in standard English,” he said.
He feels singing in English will give him a global platform.
Born in St James but residing in Kingston, Brett Ikon said his relationship with music began as a teenager attending Cornwall College in Montego Bay.
“A friend of mine wrote a song and I sang it at school. The feedback was good and I began writing songs from then on,” he said.
His first professionally released song, What Makes This Work, came out in September.
His next single, I Got You, is expected to be released in weeks.
“I am expecting that song to do well. We will be pulling out all the stops to promote it,” he said.
