THE Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) will be observing Police Week 2016 from Sunday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 23 under the theme ‘The Journey’, to mark its 149th anniversary.

Speaking at a JIS ‘Think Tank’ last week, head of the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay said the activities will conclude on November 23 to facilitate preparation for the local government elections on November 28.

The week of activities started yesterday with a national commemorative and memorial church service in Area Two, at the Port Antonio New Testament Church of God, in Portland,

There were other services in the various area divisions across the island. In Area One, at the Calvary Baptist Church located on Corinaldi Avenue in Montego Bay; Area Three, at the St Elizabeth Parish Church in Black River; and Areas Four and Five and non-geographical formations at the Covenant Moravian Church, 127 Molynes Road, Kingston 20.

Today, starting at 8:00 am, members of the force will host a rededication ceremony at the Eccleston Early-Childhood Institute in Macca Tree District, Brown’s Hall, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

This will be followed by the Policy and Security Conference hosted by the National Police College of Jamaica and the University of the West Indies Open Campus, at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge on November 22 and 23 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

It will be held under the theme ‘Challenges in Tackling Criminal Gangs: A Partnership Approach’.

The week culminates with the Jamaica Police Convalescent Centre’s 10th Anniversary Open Day and Health Fair in Black River, St Elizabeth, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The convalescent centre is where Police officers who have been injured on the job stay for rehabilitation.

“Many of the persons in the centre are unable to continue with their duties because of several disabilities resulting from on-the-job injuries. We want to show our appreciation to them, so we encourage families and members of the force to join us on November 23,” Lindsay said.
