Vote for Jamaica!
Dear Editor,
Is it that the media has disingenuously refused to carry the categorical condemnation of the utterances made by a certain party leader, whose utterances leave you in the same zone of anxiety that that a certain reputed WhatsApp message regarding the wiping out of Christmas in Spanish Town?
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and (he/she) spake as a dragon,” (Rev 13:11).
Step aside ‘Jamaican mafia’, this is the real deal. Well, it sure sounds like it.
Now, to the extent that everyone is silent — an indication of consent — then I have no choice but to see all members of said party as the same despicable and deplorable bunch. For all these, it’s party first. Who cares about country!
Tell me, anyone, how does this trademark display point the way forward for a country grappling with a growing problem of crime and violence? Is it a case of irresponsible journalism here? Well, the only blame I’ll lay at the media’s feet is that there wasn’t a “PG” warning before they carried this sorry story coming out of the ever-troubled St Ann South Eastern constituency.
Even if anyone will add reasoning to the situation — which many doubtlessly are doing — that this notorious leader hasn’t said anything to implicate herself, the language is dangerously ambiguous. And what of a young boy, who has an appetite for criminal behaviour. Tell me what would he think of this leader’s utterances? Will he take licence for his criminal behaviour?
And to think that I wasn’t going to vote in the upcoming local government elections! Well, now I’m just going to have to make my voice heard through the ballot — a decision I wish the entire country’s electorate will make, as well. We have to move beyond this kind of leadership and save our beloved Jamrock!
Perhaps Donald Trump’s ascension to power is a blessing in disguise; more of us may be forced to seek to preserve what we have here.
