KINGSTON, Jamaica — Late-season Tropical Storm Otto is expected to strengthen in the Caribbean during the next 48 hours and become a hurricane by Wednesday.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica this morning reported that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 95 km/h with higher gusts.
At 4:00 am, the centre of the tropical storm was located near latitude 10.7 north, longitude 79.0 west or 355 km southeast of San Andres Island.
Tropical Storm Otto is currently stationary, and little net motion is expected today, Met Service said.
A slow west-northwestward motion is expected tonight and Wednesday, followed by a turn toward the west Wednesday night.
Met Service said flooding and rainfall is likely across portions of Central America.
Tropical Storm Otto is not a threat to Jamaica.
