Here are some painting tips to consider as you prepare to do your painting this Christmas.
1.Be safe; make sure that your ladder and other equipment are secure before starting the job.
2.Check the material you will need, such as sandpaper and fillers, before starting to paint.
3.Always use the right paint for the job. Make your choice from the BERGER PRODUCT RANGE brochure.
4.Be sure to follow the “Directions for Use” on the paint can before you start the job.
5.Fill in wall cracks with Berger Joint Compound.
6.Seal gaps around the frames with a sealant or caulking compound before repainting.
7.Clean old surfaces before repainting.
8. To treat fungus and mildew on old paint, wash the surface thoroughly then treat with BERGER Biocidal Solution.
9. If old paint is flaking or peeling, remove as much as possible by scraping or, if necessary with a Paint Remover.
10. Protect your eyes with safety goggles when wire brushing or scraping painted surface.
11. Before painting make sure to use the correct primer or pre-treatment material recommended on the paint label.
12. Always stir paint thoroughly before use. Keep all unused paint in sealed buckets.
13. Cover floors and furniture to protect from splashes. If paint falls on unprotected surfaces, wipe off immediately.
14. Paint CEILINGS FIRST. Use an extension roller and avoid working from a ladder.
15. When applying emulsion paint to walls, for an even application, work from one edge across and finish off with light strokes from dry to wet areas.
16. When working over old paints, or varnishes, apply paint to small surfaces at a time. Try not to brush over wet areas until they are dry as the surface may wrinkle or streak.
17. When preparing wood for staining or varnishing, sandpaper in the direction of the grain in the wood to prevent unsightly streaks in the wood.
18. For the best results ensure that the paint brush is of good quality.
19. When using more than one pail of a colour of paint, combine the containers for better uniformity of colour.
20. Wash out brushes and rollers with soap and water after using Royale Satin Sheen Emulsion, Weatherproof Lowsheen Emulsion, 303 Flat Emulsion, Nature’s Whites, Everglow Lowsheen Emulsion or Magicote Flat Emulsion.
21. Clean brushes with BERGER #2 Reducer after painting with 404 or Rust Pro.
Actual colour will vary depending on the product, gloss level, application method, film variance, substrate, and light source. For critical matches, a sample of paint should be applied, allowed to dry, and checked before proceeding with entire job. BERGER has a free Colour and Technical Advisory Service.
