Shane Ellis rides Buzz Nightmare in Diamond Mile
The egrets at the racetrack were in full flight on Wednesday morning like many of the horses preparing for the prestigious Diamond Mile race on December 10. The Diamond Mile is sponsored by the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission along with main sponsors Supreme Ventures Limited. Associate sponsors of the Diamond Mile are ISP Finance Limited, ATL Automotive Limited and the Jamaica Observer.
Without doubt, the most talked about gallop came from the Philip Feanny-trained Buzz Nightmare who, according to the official website of the promoting company, Caymanas Track Limited, cantered out of the chute and then galloped seven furlongs in 1:28.1 minutes, beating stablemate Campesino in the process by over six lengths. Campesino galloped his seven furlongs in 1:30.0 minutes. Champion jockey Shane Ellis was on board Buzz Nightmare for the Wednesday morning gallop.
Later in the day, following Buzz Nightmare’s exciting gallop, Feanny indicated in an interview with theComplete Racing Guide that Ellis will be the man in the saddle on Buzz Nightmare come Diamond Mile day.
“Nothing much to say here, but yes, champion jockey Shane Ellis has been booked to ride Buzz Nightmare in the Diamond Mile,” was Feanny’s short response. The many-time champion trainer offered nothing more when asked to comment on the work done by Buzz Nightmare.
The Complete Racing Guide is also confirming that former champion jockey, Panamanian Dick Cardenas, will be riding in the Diamond Mile.
Cardenas, who now rides at the Indiana Downs racetrack in the United States, was expected to be in Jamaica from yesterday, although this could not be confirmed. A source close to Cardenas said that the rider will not be in the saddle tomorrow or on the Wednesday race meeting of November 30. Instead, Cardenas will mount up on Saturday, December 3, a week before the Diamond Mile.
While there is wild speculation as to which horse Cardenas will ride in the Diamond Mile, the Complete Racing Guide is yet to receive any concrete word on the matter.
