#LocalGovt16: Duncan Pryce confident of PNP win despite general election loss
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Imani Duncan Pryce, who lost her bid for the East Rural St Andrew seat in the February general election, was in jubilant spirits a short while ago when she showed up at the polling centre at the Harbour View Primary School.
Duncan Pryce said that although historically the political party that wins the Parliamentary election usually takes the councils, she is certain that the People’s National Party (PNP) will send a message to the ruling Jamaica Labour Party( JLP).
“What we are looking to do is to retain as many (parish councils) as possible. We want to hold on to a majority of those… to send a signal to the JLP that we are in it and we are rebuilding, ” she stated in an interview with OBSERVER ONLINE.
Duncan Pryce said the “real fight” will be to retain the Bull Bay and Kintyre divisions, which the party won marginally in the 2012 local government election.
“Harbour View was built by Norman Manley. We know that there is much work to be done in Harbour view still but the people here are with the councillor and we are looking to rebuild even stronger in Harbour View. So we expect to win Harbour View,” she said.
“With regards to Dallas (Bully Bay) and Kintyre, we are going to fight till the end of the day, voter by voter,” she declared.
The PNPs Artnell McDonald is up against the JLPs Kelvin Clarke for Kintyre. In Bull Bay, Celia James of the JLP is seeking to topple the PNP’s Patricia Morgan.
