Quest face St Catherine in JISA netball final
MANY-TIME champions Quest Prep and St Catherine Prep will square off in the Jamaica Independent Schools’ Association (JISA)/Tastee Limited 2016 Prep Netball League final today at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 3:00 pm.
Both teams reached today’s final by emerging winners of their groups in the semi-final-round play-offs. St Catherine topped Group A with nine points from three matches, while Quest won Group B with identical points.
St Catherine defeated defending League champions Wolmer’s Prep 12-9 to end their reign, while Quest stopped this season’s opening rally champions Vaz Prep 16-9 in their final round of matches to decide the two finalists.
Meanwhile, this is the first time St Catherine will be reaching the championship final since 2001. The Spanish Town-based school finished fourth last year.
According to Coach Valerie Blake the school is very hungry for a title, but is aware it won’t be an easy task.
“We will not lay back and allow Quest to roll over us as our chances are as good as our opponents. They (Quest) will also come in as favourites, but I am very proud of the players as,” Blake said.
St Catherine are expected to rely on shooters Shauna-Kay Harris and Jarvia Hinds to get the goals with support from Kalya Wright and Aleanna Silpot.
Meanwhile, Quest Coach Doreen Chambers said: “This is the first time Quest will be facing St Catherine this season and will come out strongly in search of victory.”
Chambers will be banking on shooters Kayla Reid and Quanna Owens to find the target, while looking towards Ashley Thorpe and Akalia Lewis to produce the vital passes.
Dethroned champions Wolmer’s and Hydel Prep will face each other in the third-place play-off match.
Meanwhile, the JISA high schoolgirl section final will be played between Quality Academics and National Academy of Practical Nurses (NAPN), while Victor Dixon and Kingsway will meet in the third-place match.
