Champs MoBay hunt six straight against Humble Lion
Red-hot Montego Bay United will be hunting their sixth-consecutive win when they tackle Humble Lion in the feature Red Stripe Premier League match at Effortville Community Centre, starting at 3:00 pm.
In the other 3:00 pm games. The University of the West Indies host Jamalco FC; Reno travel to Maverley/Hughenden and Boys’ Town take on Portmore United. Then at 6:00 pm, Waterhouse welcome Tivoli Gardens to Drewsland, and at 7:00 pm Harbour View tackle Arnett Gardens.
Montego Bay United are out front on 31 points, while Humble Lion have fallen off the ball of late, sitting down in fifth spot with 22 points, having lost two of their last four games.
Despite the nine-point difference between the two teams, it should be a close affair as both are loaded with talented and experienced players. The most feared striker in the country, Dino Williams with seven goals, will again lead the Montego Bay attack along with Allan Ottey, Cory Hylton, Donovan Carey and Jermaine Woozencroft.
Humble Lion, who made it to the semis last season, will look towards their veteran Wolry Wolfe with four goals for inspiration. Gary McIntosh, Francois Swaby, Levaughn Williams, Gregory Lewis, Ricardo Campbell, and Hugh Howell are expected to lead the fight also.
Meanwhile, inform Tivoli Gardens take on struggling Waterhouse at Drewsland starting at 6:00 pm. Tivoli Gardens, led by the impressive Jermaine Johnson, are up to third with 26 points following four consecutive wins. Waterhouse on the other hand are in 11th place with 11 points and are desperate to climb out of the relegation zone. They are winless in their last five games, losing four times, but will be buoyed by the fact that they defeated Tivoli Gardens 1-0 in the first round.
Second-placed the UWI on 29 points host the promoted Jamalco FC in ninth spot with 14 points at the UWI Bowl, starting at 3:00 pm. UWI are hunting their fourth-consecutive victory and are favoured to pick up three more points.
Two former champions, Harbour View and Arnett Gardens, clash at the Compound in the late kick-off at 7 pm. Harbour View are eighth on 16 points, having won three of their last fives, while the sliding Arnett Gardens are sixth on 19 points after losing three of their last five games. Arnett boast a 1-0 win over Harbour View in the first round, and another close encounter is in store.
Last-season beaten finalists Portmore United travel to Barbican to play Boys’ Town. Portmore United are fourth on 24 points, while Boys’ Town are at the bottom with 10 points from 14 games. Portmore are coming off a 1-4 loss, while Boys’ Town should feel confident following a long-overdue victory last week.
At the Constant Spring Complex, Maverley/Hughenden, under new coach Anthony Patrick, host Reno FC, looking to end a two-game winless streak. Maverley are just hovering above the relegation zone in 10th spot with 13 points, while Reno are seventh on 18 points. Both teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the first round and another close encounter is in store.
