Former Jamaican beauty queen pleads guilty to drug charges
NEW YORK, USA (CMC) — A former Miss Jamaica contestant is to be sentenced on March 13 after she pleaded guilty Monday to attempting to smuggle nearly 60 pounds of cocaine into the United States.
Marsha Gay Reynolds, 32, faces a possibility of a minimum 10 years in jail after she was charged with possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy involving an unindicted co-conspirator.
Reynolds, a former JetBlue flight attendant, had bolted down an up escalator and out of Los Angeles International, leaving behind her luggage, after she was randomly selected for secondary screening on March 18.
The following day she flew to New York, surrendering to US Drug Enforcement Administration agents several days later.
Her lawyer said she was also a nursing student, but withdrew from school before her arrest.
