Simplify the ‘voting paper’!
Dear Editor,
The voting paper, as most of us call it, needs to be done over and presented in a simple form. I voted twice this year and I request the powers that be to make the form simple.
Change the glossy, art-exhibiting, craft-manifesting, colour-coding invitation card to a very simple black and white voting sheet that everyone over 18 years can mark.
Have simple columns with the name of the candidate, symbol of candidate in colour (only colour on the paper), and a box for the mark.
This is so simple. Then again ask the voters to put a tick.
Very few Jamaicans sign their names with an x. Those days are over, thank God. Let us vote with a tick. That’s what our teachers gave us in school, and that’s what the boss puts beside our names when we are assessed.
The simple non-glossy voters’ forms will be cheaper to produce, more people will feel more comfortable with the simple format, and the simplicity will produce less spoilt ballots.
