Spotlight – Don Andre

2016 ENTERTAINMENT HIGHLIGHTS

The Jamaica Observer’s Entertainment section continues its daily 2016 Year In Review with individuals who made an impact during the year.

Don Andre

2016 will go down as the breakthrough year for deejay Don Andre. Born in Jamaica and raised in South London, he had everyone dancing to his song Tom Cruise.

“

Tom Cruise was my breakout single. I had high expectations for this song and it lived up to them all. It gave me an amended amount of exposure not only in the Caribbean, but also across the world. The song reached places I didn’t even know understood and knew about dancehall music,” Don Andre told the Jamaica Observer.

Produced by KMG Records, Tom Cruise topped charts in Jamaica and overseas.

It was a game-changer for Don Andre.

“This record changed everything in my life because of its success. I’ve been touring extensively ever since

Tom Cruise topped the charts. I’ve also got lots of offers to collaborate with international acts and major labels have approached me,” he shared.

Don Andre (real name Carlos Robinson) followed up with catchy tunes such as Jog, Whine Yuh Waist Suh (featuring Vybz Kartel) and Chrome Whine.

His most memorable moment for 2016? Performing on Reggae Sumfest.

“I’ve had so many great moments, but the one that stood out the most for me was my appearance at Reggae Sumfest 2016. Come on! Every youth’s dream is to perform on that show.”

— Kevin Jackson
